The best thing about living near a seaside city like Portsmouth is coming across the unexpected. In clement weather, weekends normally encompass a walk along the Eastney Beach with the Hound but my habit is always to drive right the way down the beach to see what else might be going on.
Today, for example, there’s a kite festival on Southsea Common- not just any kite festival – but the Portsmouth International Kite Festival no less, celebrating its 20th year and I hear it’s the biggest of its kind in the world. It carries on all weekend and I just could not resist the urge to park up and walk over to see these flying pieces of art in motion . See for yourself, it’s just great fun, people are drawn away from the beach to come to it and everyone around has a beaming great smile on their face. I defy you to come along and not feel a great sense of enjoyment. Parents – keeps the rug rats amused for hours!
