One of the most prestigious, luxury hotel suites in Shanghai, the Sassoon Presidential Suite occupies the entire 10th floor penthouse of Fairmont Peace Hotel, where the hotel’s creator and former owner, Victor Sassoon, once lived.
An entrepreneurial businessman and hotelier from the Sassoon banking family, one of the most famous and prosperous of Jewish families in 1920s and 1930s Shanghai, Sir Victor transformed the city, establishing various commercial entities to support rapid development, particularly on the Bund.
Sir Victor established his own company, Cathay Hotel Limited in Hong Kong in 1928 and decided to adapt ‘Sassoon House’ into a contemporary hotel, symbolising the prosperous future of Shanghai. British by birth, Sir Victor was known for his sense of humour and high sense of living, in addition to his epicurean tastes, love of horse racing and hosting of extravagant balls and parties. The Cathay Hotel (now Fairmont Peace Hotel) was arguably his greatest achievement, with its fabulous art deco design, portraying the vibrancy and entrepreneurial spirit of Shanghai at that time.
Sir Victor himself presided over his amazing business and social ventures from his personal penthouse, at the top of the building under the signature green copper pyramid tower, with 360 degree views of the city.
This 10th floor penthouse is rightfully named the Sassoon Presidential suite, an exclusive and glamorous place to stay during a visit to Shanghai. At 268 square metres, the suite features a spacious bedroom and a grand living room, both overlooking the breath-taking view of the Bund, the Huangpu River and Pudong Skyline. Other amenities include a study room, bathroom with jacuzzi, 52-inch flat-screen television, Bose Audio ipod docking station, Blu-ray DVD player, wireless broadband Internet, bespoke furnishings and even an in-suite dining area which can accommodate up to ten guests.
