The wait is nearly over! At 310 metres, the glistening, glass-clad Shard of London will be the tallest building in the European Union when unveiled, later this week. Tickets will be on sale from 9am this Friday 6th July on the new View from The Shard website for the first viewings in February next year. There will also be a spectacular laser and light show at 10.15pm this Thursday 5th July to celebrate the opening of this skyscraper in style!
Quarter Bar & Lounge, London Bridge Hotel‘s chic bar and eatery is the perfect location to enjoy a cocktail before the light display, at the base of The Shard by London Bridge Station, and adjoined to the stylish, four star hotel.
The GBP2bn project to regenerate the London Bridge area has ensured the central location is top of the list for locals and visitors and is now known as London Bridge Quarter, including The Shard, The Place (or as we like to call it, Baby Shard), a transformed transport hub, new retail space and a newly landscaped public realm.
Armies of builders and engineers worked 24 hours a day, six days a week to raise the tower at a rate of 30cm an hour at its peak. Designed by Renzo Piano on the back of a napkin, The Shard has rewritten the rules of skyscraper construction, using the UK’s tallest crane, thousands of tonnes of materials and even a tower crane that sat inside the buildings hollow core, which was dismantled when the building reached its height.
This new London Landmark will feature plush offices on floors 2-28, a Shangri-La Hotel on floors 34-52, residential apartments on floors 53-65 (expected to be among the most expensive in London at GBP6,000 per square foot) and of course, the UK’s highest viewing gallery on floors 68-72 – over twice the height of any other viewing gallery in London!
Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be one of the first to experience The View from The Shard – a 360 degree view of up to 40 miles, over one of the greatest cities in the world. On a visit to the London Bridge area, drop your bags and stay at London Bridge Hotel, the perfect base to explore the regenerated area, at the base of The Shard next to Quarter Bar & Lounge – the perfect place to relax any butterflies in your stomach after a journey up the highest building in Europe!
