Set in 3,300 acres of lush and fertile West Sussex country side, Goodwood Estate organic farm and kitchen gardens supply the chefs of Goodwood House with fresh seasonal produce all year round. The gardeners and chefs’ work together to ensure that the kitchens are full to bursting with the freshest ingredients so delicious meals can be produced for all events held at the House. It is not just Goodwood vegetables and fruit that can be enjoyed, the farm also rear rare and native breeds of cows, pigs and sheep.
The best of Goodwood can be enjoyed in all the Estate restaurants and bought from the Farm Shop. The shop sells an excellent range from the farm including meat, Estate pickles and preserves, Goodwood cheese including Molecomb Blue and of course organic Goodwood Ale and Lager, Goodwood ice cream and Goodwood organic raw milk.
Goodwood is committed to the care of the soil, using a traditional system that simulates the right conditions for increasing the natural flora and fauna across the Estate. The Home Farm is one of the largest lowland, mixed organic farms in the UK and has been supplying food to the Dukes of Richmond for the last 300 years. It achieved full organic status in 2004, although the concept that the Estate could be farmed organically originated in the 1950s, very much as a result of input from the present Duchess of Richmond who ran her kitchen garden on organic principles and was one of the first members of The Soil Association.
The same care and attention is also paid to the livestock on the Home Farm, the prime grassland is used for the dairy herd of 200 Shorthorn stock. The beef cattle are bred using Sussex bulls and are also grass reared during the summer months on the slopes of the Sussex Downs. As well as the 1,200 breeding ewes, the Estate boasts 30 native, pedigree Southdowns. The traditional pig breeds – Saddleback and Gloucester Old Spot – can also be found cleaning up the arable land!
The Farm shop is open Monday – Saturday 9am – 6pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm.
