Take a tour through the Vallée du Loir…

Let me tell you a secret

The Vallée du Loir (The Loir Valley) is the land of living colours, western sun, authentic villages, wooded hillsides, forests, vineyards, orchards and gourmet outings!

On a trip to the Zoo de La Flèche I was treated to four new safari lodges. Each lodge offered different view points for animals which provided sights such as the wolves’ enclosure or if that didn’t get my blood pumping then observing the Siberian tigers surveying their domain made me keep my distance!

I checked in and was nervously locked into the zoo! However spending the night was made easy with food being delivered from the Michelin starred Le Moulin de Quatre Saisons.

Visiting the nearby Chateau de Lude, one of the architectural jewels of the French Renaissance, was the perfect day out to soak in some of the history of Vallée du Loir. Once accommodating The Queen Mother and displaying a photograph of her inside, this Chateau has been within the same family for 250 years – so as many people say… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

After a long day on my feet, the perfect place to wind down was the Hotel Mabille Duchene! This new guest house is in a historic monument dating back to 1594. The building has been lovingly renovated  and exudes an air of elegance. It is filled with antiques and ‘objets d’arts’ as the owners have an antique shop next door. I was able to enjoy a tasty breakfast in the hotel’s stables – don’t worry I wasn’t sharing with the horses!
