The tour of the Vallée du Loir continues…

Chateau de Grande Luce 3

Our journey through the Vallée du Loir continues and our travels have brought us to the doorstep of the house owned by world renowned interior designer Timothy Corrigan! The sheer size of the Chateau de Grand Lucé is breathtaking – let’s just say I wouldn’t like to lose my keys in this house!

Visiting Baugé, the birthplace of the tasty orange liquor Cointreau was a particular delight! After sipping a few glasses, we visited the charming Chateau de Baugé which by day is peaceful, full of character and is said to house a fragment of Christ’s true cross found in the La Girouardière Chapel. By night, the muttered rumours of the chateau being haunted take over your thoughts!

After a restless night at Chateau de Baugé and we were able to wind down at the 5 Grande Rue. Recently opening in May 2013 this comfortable guest house is run by Susan and Simon Wachter from the United Kingdom. We had a choice of five rooms, each allowed us to look out over the charming courtyard whilst enjoying a peaceful atmosphere and truly yummy food.

Now rejuvenated we made one final pit stop on our journey through Vallée du Loir and we pulled up to Les Jardins du Prieuré de Vauboin (Gardens of the Vauboin Priory). Thierry Juge fell in love with this stunning priory, its gardens and spring 20 years ago and today all of his hard work in designing and nurturing these lovely gardens is self-evident. He has created an enclosed garden and a box plantation linked by water which flows around the priory…the perfect way to conclude our trip!
